Jason Brown, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Jason Brown is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Proteus. Mr. Brown founded the firm in 2012 following the successful creation and growth of Archway Technology Partners and Archway Finance & Operations—known collectively as Archway. Mr. Brown guided Archway to become one of the largest providers of complex partnership accounting, financial data aggregation and client reporting to family offices and financial institutions serving ultra-high-net-worth families. Under Mr. Brown’s leadership, Archway pioneered how family offices leverage enterprise technology to deliver efficient, scalable solutions across multiple generations of families. Mr. Brown oversaw the sale of Archway to SEI (NASDAQ: SEIC) in 2017.
In addition to his entrepreneurial initiatives, Mr. Brown’s professional background includes software design, software development and implementation consulting roles at Arthur Andersen, Powerway, Inc., and MarketSphere Consulting. Mr. Brown has also served as general partner and investment manager for a startup hedge fund.
Mr. Brown is a graduate of Michigan State University.
Eric Knauss, President & Chief Investment Officer
Eric Knauss is the President and Chief Investment Officer at Proteus. Mr. Knauss leads the firm’s investment team and chairs the firm’s Investment Committee. Mr. Knauss is responsible for all aspects of investment management for the firm which includes sourcing and selection of private market investments, construction of investment pools across multiple asset classes as well as due diligence and ongoing monitoring of active investments.
Mr. Knauss has more than 40 years of experience within the wealth management industry. Over the course of his career, Mr. Knauss has managed asset allocation, portfolio construction and portfolio management for both large family offices and institutional investors on a discretionary basis. Mr. Knauss also has significant experience in conducting investment manager due diligence. Mr. Knauss began his career at Merrill Lynch and went on to hold leadership roles at T. Rowe Price, GenSpring Family Office, Lazard Wealth Management and Sight Capital Advisors.
Mr. Knauss is a graduate of Wesleyan University.
Molly Herendeen, Chief Operating Officer
Molly Herendeen is the Chief Operating Officer at Proteus. Ms. Herendeen oversees the firm's day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient execution across transaction processing, investor relations and fund manager support. Ms. Herendeen is also responsible for scaling the firm's infrastructure and technology capabilities to support growth.
Ms. Herendeen’s career has spanned a variety of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing and financial services. She has more than 20 years of experience in large system implementations with an emphasis on project management, business process design, process improvement and system integration. Prior to joining Proteus, Ms. Herendeen owned and operated an independent consulting firm for 11 years, where she assisted clients with the implementation of ERP systems. Ms. Herendeen’s background also includes software design and implementation consulting roles at Andersen Consulting, Powerway, Inc., and MarketSphere Consulting.
Ms. Herendeen received her undergraduate degree from The University of Illinois and a Master’s degree from Indiana University.
Ryan Laughon, Chief Compliance Officer
Ryan Laughon is the Chief Compliance Officer at Proteus. Mr. Laughon oversees the regulatory compliance matters for the firm as well as the firm’s policy development, internal compliance and ethics programs.
Prior to Proteus, Mr. Laughon was the President of SEI’s Family Office Services division, which provided sophisticated, technology-driven products and services to family offices and financial institutions working with ultra-high-net-worth families. Prior to SEI, Mr. Laughon was a founding partner and President of Archway Technology Partners. Mr. Laughon’s background also includes technology and implementation consulting roles at Arthur Andersen and MarketSphere Consulting.
Mr. Laughon is a graduate of The University of Kansas.

Anya Janeway, Chief Accounting Officer
Anya Janeway is the Chief Accounting Officer at Proteus. Ms. Janeway leads corporate and fund accounting, including financial and client reporting, and oversees all audit and tax matters for the firm.
Prior to Proteus, Ms. Janeway was Vice President of Client Services at Archway Technology Partners, which provided complex partnership accounting, financial data aggregation and client reporting to family offices and financial institutions serving ultra-high-net-worth families. Ms. Janeway has also served as a financial officer and board member for multiple non-profit boards.
Ms. Janeway is a graduate of Ball State University.
Dave Rankin, Managing Director, Business Development
Dave Rankin, CFP®, is the Managing Director of Business Development at Proteus. Mr. Rankin oversees all aspects of business development for the firm, including new client acquisition and the growth of existing client relationships.
Prior to Proteus, Mr. Rankin was Vice President and Sr. Relationship Strategist at PNC Investments. Mr. Rankin’s background also includes business development and wealth management roles at Fisher Investments, Merrill Lynch, Robert Baird & Co., and NatCity Investments.
Mr. Rankin is a graduate of Kent State University and is a Certified Financial Planner.
